Dr. Ed Poole
Much of my professional life was in public education. Within that field I was a high school
teacher, middle school principal, high school assistant principal and principal,
associate superintendent for instruction, and superintendent of schools. I also taught fifteen
years full-time at the University of Georgia and Aurora University, as well as part-time at Indiana
University, Butler University in Indianapolis, Northern Illinois University, National-Louis
University, and North Central College. I was Education and Training Director for Cummins Engine
Company, a Fortune 100 company, located in Columbus, Indiana.
I resigned my last university teaching position in April, 2006, to found Lessons for Your Journey,
Inc., and to devote full-time to those paths which hold my heart. Those paths include my
experiences as a writer, public speaker, success coach , storyteller, and a consultant,
facilitator, and trainer to both profit and not-for-profit organizations. For over twenty years,
I have written and presented extensively throughout the United States on organizational change,
the dynamics and alignment of organizations, leadership development, organization development,
and executive coaching. I have developed programs for school districts, universities, and Fortune
500 companies.
The symbol for my company is the labyrinth, which represents the authentic path I walk in my life
to allow me to remember my authentic self in the midst of forces imposing from without and dreams
pushing from within to find their light of day.
The labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to our journey toward wholeness. It combines the
imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. At its most basic
level, the labyrinth represents the journey toward the center of our deepest self and back out
again into the world. Joseph Campbell, author of The Hero of a Thousand Faces, said a labyrinth
is “where we had thought to travel outward, we will come to the center of our own existence.”
It is a metaphor for life’s journey, a symbol that creates a sacred space and place and takes us
out of our ego to that which is within.
Personal and organizational journeys intersect many times in our lives. Come sit on the porch for
a while and explore the many possibilities that await you. The links on my website will guide you
through the opportunities you deserve to receive from Lessons for Your Journey, Inc.
